Liaison between generations...

I did not grow up with computers - but I did take typing and programming classes in high school. I grew up in rural America (Upstate NY farm land) right when the world wide web was kicking off during the dial up days. I did my research projects using card catalogs, the Dewey Decimal System, and interlibrary loans, but typed them up using Microsoft Word and emailing myself files to print at school computer labs. Now, I own a laptop, which is where I am typing this at the moment. I utilize it nearly every day (Thanks Brandon!). I also have a smart phone (two actually - one for personal use and one for the business). There are apps for everything and we use technology within most of our daily tasks. As an educator, I have seen the shift to the dependency on technology - in our classrooms and in the education system itself. Today's high school graduates most likely cannot write in cursive (or read it) - but nor did they take formal typing instruction - and their fingers do not rest on the home row in between pecks. I am not complaining - just observing... I lived through the transition and can see the merits and shortcomings of each side of the divide. Similarly, I am between two different generations regarding human rights - and the shift/fight seems ongoing. (These are the second "LA riots" I have lived through...) I also hover between the two extremes of the economic spectrum. The housing market crashed in the recession for my first home, and with the homeownership boom the way it is now - I don't understand how our children will ever afford houses of their own... (I could go off on a tangent here about the LOGIC for multi-family or even multi-generational living... but I will step off my soap box for now). Living in between can be difficult because I don't fit into either Generation X or Millenials... and I teach - so I am exposed to the mindsets and struggles and challenges of both Millenials and Gen Zers. Yet, this also puts me in a unique spot to function as a liaison between different generations. I can help older folks utilize navigational apps - and also assist younger folks in traditional navigation. I am comfortable picking up the phone or striking up a conversation with someone in an "old school" way - or communicating via text or video conferencing. I still journal and compose hand written notes - but I can email with the best of them... This is getting a little long winded - my apologies - but here is the thought I want to leave you with. Travel LISTTIN clients span ALL seven generations! (the Greatest Generation, the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z, and Generation Alpha.) Generation Beta joins us here in 2025 - so - we can add them to the list too! Folks who know more about starting a business than I do have informed me about the discrepancies between marketing to these different generations. My wordiness might work well for the Greatest Generation, the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, and even Generation X... But, starting with the Millenials - we are moving into video clips - "shorts" as they are known. Posts on social media need to include graphics - preferably with text, audio, and movement/ animation. In an effort to cater to all - we are posting A LOT! So - just skip the stuff that doesn't appeal to you - and check out the content that you are most comfortable with.
